Key & BPM Finder FAQ

What is a key and BPM finder?
It's a free online tool that detects the musical key and tempo of a song. Drop in an audio file and it reads the key, shows the Camelot code for harmonic mixing, and finds the BPM, all in your browser.
Is this key and BPM finder free?
Yes, completely free with no account and no limits. It runs entirely in your browser, so you can analyze as many songs as you like.
Do you upload my song?
No. Your audio is decoded and analyzed locally in your browser and never sent to a server, so your files stay private.
What is the Camelot code?
The Camelot code is a DJ-friendly label for a key (like 8A or 8B). Keys with neighbouring codes mix harmonically, so it makes blending tracks in key much easier.
How accurate is the key detection?
It's accurate for most songs with a clear tonal centre. Because every major key shares notes with a relative minor, it can occasionally name the relative key, they share a Camelot number, so mixing still works. Trust your ear for the final call.
Why does the BPM show half or double?
Tempo detection can lock onto half or double the feel of a song. Use the half / double-time corrector to drop or double the number until it matches, the key does not change.
What audio formats can I use?
MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC and OGG all work. Drop a file from your device or pick one from your library.
