Where it started

Freesong began the way most songs do — with someone who couldn't stop thinking about music.

Our founder, Steve Alexander, picked up the bass in a middle school band and never really put it down. Piano came next, then guitar, then the quiet obsession of arranging — figuring out how a handful of instruments become one feeling. Music was the first love. Code became the second: Steve went on to build a career as an algorithm engineer, spending his days in software and his nights still chasing chord progressions.

For years, those two worlds stayed separate. Then AI changed everything.

Why Freesong exists

When AI music generation arrived, Steve saw something most people missed: the technology was extraordinary, but the experience was scattered. Lyrics in one app. Generation in another. Vocal tools somewhere else, stem separation in a command line, and your half-finished ideas spread across a dozen tabs.

Making music online felt like a band where every member rehearses in a different building.

Freesong was built to fix that. One platform where every part of a song lives together — write lyrics with AI, generate complete tracks with realistic vocals, clone your own singing voice, split songs into studio-ready stems, remove vocals for covers and karaoke. Your words, your voice, your tracks, your stems: connected, not scattered.

What we believe

Music belongs to everyone. You shouldn't need ten years of lessons to hear the song in your head. If you can describe it, you should be able to make it.
